Hey there BKFam,
Are you overwhelmed by the thousands of skincare trends and routines, confused where to begin and how to choose the right products for you 😵. We got your back !!
This is an introduction to a effective but not so 'over the top' skincare routine that can be adapted by anyone at any age and can easily fit it in your busy days.
Kick start your skincare sesh with a cleanser 💦. Depending on your skin type you may choose the type of cleanser as below.Avoid products that have Sodium lauryl sulfate.
|Skin Type||Type of Cleanser|
|Dry Skin||Mild face wash or cleansing lotion|
|Oily Skin||Foaming cleanser or gel based face wash|
|Acne-Prone Skin||Micellar water cleansers, foaming cleanser with salicylic acid|
|Combination Skin||Gel based face wash|
With foaming cleansers and face washes, take a pea-sized amount of product, create the lather in your hands and gently apply all over your face, massage for around 30 - 45 seconds with light hands 💆🏻♂️.
When using Micellar water, saturate the cotton pad and gently dab all over your face and neck. Do not rub or pull the skin especially near the eye. If you have light makeup on press and hold the cotton pad a few seconds to melt the makeup away.
Oil cleansers are very effective in removing waterproof makeup 💄, the correct way to use it is to apply evenly on the face and massage gently to break down the makeup and then wash your face. Be sure to use a water based cleanser next.
If you like cleansing balms then make sure to check the ingredient list and confirm it is free of Polyethylene (Microplastics) 🙅🏻♂️ it is harmful to the enviornment especially marine life 🐟.

This is one regimen we swear by. Skin rejuvenates itself in a cycle but sometimes it might need a push. Exfoliant helps to dissolve the dead skin and reveal the young skin cells. Now don’t mistake exfoliants for physical scrubs 🚫.
We are also guilty of using those walnut scrubs (Ouch!! 😳) but we have learned our lessons (the hard way, now you don’t have to).
Use products with AHAs and BHAs for chemical exfoliation.
For best results use a mask or serum form so that hydroxy acid will get the time to penetrate in epidermis and remove gunk and sebum from skin while dissolving the dead skin cells away.
📌Don't overdo it, you should include chemical exfoliator only twice or maximum thrice in a week.
Now this step entirely depends on your age and skin needs. Start treating the skin to fight against the signs of aging 👵🏻 in your mid 20s itself. Either you can incorporate the anti aging ingredients like Hyaluronic acid, ceramides, retinols in the moisturizer itself or opt for an anti aging serum or cream in this step.
Hyaluronic acid and ceramides lock the moisture in the skin and keep skin supple and youthful 🧒🏻. Vitamin E and C are also potent anti-aging ingredients, Vitamin C helps in collagen production and Vitamin E helps to recover from hyperpigmentation.
If you have dark circles and puffiness around the eye invest in some good eye 👀 creams with ingredients like green tea, aloe etc. Neuropeptides are especially beneficial in an eye cream for those who can’t tolerate retinol products. When using an eye cream, take a pea-sized amount of product and gently apply around your orbital bone, from the inner corners to the outer corners.
For Acne Prone skin choose products with ingredients like salicylic acid and tea tree oil, clay.
We can’t emphasize enough on the importance of this step. Once you cleanse, exfoliate and finish with spot treatment, use a good hydrating moisturizer 😍.
People with acne-prone, sensitive skin look for products that are hypoallergenic (do not cause allergic reactions) and non-comedogenic (do not clog pores) labels. Products with niacinamide are good for soothing the skin, oil balancing, and fighting against acne and blemishes.
Oily skin people should avoid products with ingredients such as petrolatum or petroleum jelly, mineral oil, and all other kinds of comedogenic. Because it clogs pores and causes breakout and acne.Gel formulas that have 🌿 aloe vera, tea tree, etc. work wonders on combination and oily skin.
Dry skin people should choose products that deeply moisturize your skin. Products that have Shea or cocoa butter, Coconut, jojoba, sesame, and almond oil are good 🥥. You should choose a product that has Hyaluronic acid, petrolatum, etc..And choose products that have moisture-rich ingredients like ceramides.
And depending on the skin you may choose products with
Take a generous amount of moisturizer and dab it on your face and neck. Gently spread the product on your face with a circular motion massage 💆🏻♀️. This helps in improving blood circulation in the area and removes the toxins. Read more to find the best moisturizer for your skintype.
You knew this was coming because sunscreen is something essential for your skin 🌞. A good sunscreen acts as a physical block for your skin from UVA and UVB which causes premature aging signs in skin and sunburn. Choose a product with a minimum of SPF above 30 and you can go with 50 also. And you should apply sunscreen even when you are inside and reapply every 4 hours if possible ⌚.
Look for a sunscreen that contains at least one of the following avobenzone, titanium dioxide, sulisobenzone, or zinc oxide.
People with dry skin should look for ingredients like glycerine,🌵 aloe, etc in a cream formula. Gel-based products should work best on oily skin people.
