Hey there BKFam,
Have you also drooled over the glass-like skin of all those pretty Korean people in the dramas and KPop 😍?? We totally get you.
There is a recent bloom of many new Korean skincare brands in the beauty industry, and we can’t deny the fact that their skincare tips have actual scientific aspects to it. K-Beauty has many wonderful products which helps in building collagen and treating dehydrated skin.
Korean 10 step skincare might seem like a lot for all you lazy kids out there 😁 but you can atleast pick one or two good aspects from their regimen for sure.
To put in simple words the basis of Korean skincare is cleanse, prep, nourish, and protect.
Koreans are all about double-cleansing. It is important to remove the makeup products and the impurities that have layered over the skin.
Oil cleansing is the foundation of a 10 step Korean skincare routine. It is the first step of the double cleansing process. Oil cleansers not only remove makeup but also give a moment to massage our skin. Massaging our skin daily is really important as it improves the blood flow, tones the facial muscles, and also relieves tension. For oil cleansing, it is really important to use the right ingredients as well. Use oils like jojoba oil or grapeseed oil as they are non-comedogenic.
A water-based cleanser is the second step of the double cleansing process. The water-based cleanser helps to deeply clean the face, as it picks up any dirt and sweat that the oil cleanser didn’t pick up. when using a water-based cleanser look for ingredients like green tea extract and rice extract. And also opt for a mild cleanser so that it won't strip out all the oil in our skin.
Exfoliating is really important as it removes any dead skin from our skin, by giving smooth glowy skin. you can opt for either physical exfoliant or a chemical exfoliant. A physical exfoliant has microparticles so when we scrub our face it will remove the dead skin cells from our face. The smaller the particles the better the exfoliator will be.
A chemical exfoliant doesn't contain any particles, they are acids that react with the skin, removing built-up layers of dead cells and excess oil which causes any dull skin and blemishes. A chemical exfoliant mainly contains acids like AHA's, BHA's. As compared to physical exfoliants, chemical exfoliants give a more even and uniform results.
Toners are the ultimate prepping product as it prepares the skin barrier for the remaining skincare steps. Toners also help to balance the skin ph, hydrates and replenishes the skin. Toner helps to close the pores as well thereby protects the skin from clogging. When choosing a toner look for ingredients like aloe and citric acid.
The essence is known as the heart of the Korean skincare routine. It is a concentrated formula that mainly focuses on hydrating the skin, for anti-aging and also to brighten the skin. They are really lightweight and act as the first step to nourish the skin. When choosing an essence, look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid and rice extract.
Serums and Ampoules
Ampoules and serums are treatments for the skin which focus on specific concerns. They are mainly used for hydration,anti-aging, brightening,anti-pigmentation,glow-boosting, skin repairing, etc..When opting for a serum the ingredients depend on your skin concern. For example, a tea tree is used for acne repairing, vitamin c for brightening, and hyaluronic acid hydrating the skin.
The sheet mask is the soul of the Korean skincare routine. They are basically a sheet which is dipped in serums, which when it comes in contact with the face it allows it to completely absorb the moisture thereby making the skin soft and supple. Here also the ingredients are dependent on personal needs. Mostly used ingredients are aloe, cucumber, and rice.
The skin around the eyes is the most delicate and thin.so we need to take care of it with extreme care.so we must use an eye cream to keep under eye dark circle and puffiness at bay. Eye creams are mostly very thick than regular moisturizers and it is packed with active ingredients like hyaluronic acid and retinol.
Moisturizers are really important as it is the final step to put moisture back into the skin. They come in many forms emulsion, gel, cream, lotion, and sleeping mask. They also depend on your skin type. For dry skin, you can use a cream, for normal use gels, lotions or sleeping masks, and for oily skin go for lotion or gels.when choosing a moisturizer, go for a one with peptides in them as it will help to firm the skin.
After all these steps to take care of the skin, it is really important to protect them from harmful sun rays. Sunscreen performs the most important part of this Korean skincare routine. It protects our skin from the harmful UVA and UVB rays. These rays cause signs of aging, dark spots, suntanning, sunburns, and even skin cancer. So using a good sunscreen with a good SPF is important.when opting for a sunscreen look for ingredients like titanium dioxide and zinc oxide.
