Facial massages are not something just came over as a hype, but it’s been there since ancient times 🏯 and has various versions to it according to the cultures they origin from. In Ayurveda, Yoga, Acupressure, and shiatsu - facial massages were part of the treatment.

Along with young and healthier skin, facial massages help in relieving stress, migraine headaches, and sinus congestion. You can get a professional massage from a specialist or in spas but there are numerous simple methods that one can do at home 🏡 without the help of any devices.

Benefits

  • Improvement of facial skin and muscle tone: Everyday facial massages with the right oil for your skin will work wonders on you. With the massages, the goodness of oil will get absorbed to the skin better and makes skin supple. And it can tone and lift the muscles.
  • Detoxification: The Lymph fluid in the lymphatic system helps remove waste and toxins from the tissues. Some health conditions can cause lymph fluid to build up and through Lymphatic drainage massage, we can stimulate the movement of lymph fluids around the body to push out the toxins.
  • Relaxes facial and eye muscles.
  • Releases tension and stress.
  • Improves blood circulation.
  • Relief from neck pain and tension.
  • Helps in relieving headaches and sinus congestion: the massages around the eyes and forehead helps in instant relief with headaches.
  • Anti-aging: Massaging the face promotes blood circulation and oxygen in our skin and this helps with collagen production. This helps in preventing wrinkles and fine lines on your skin. Also, daily massages help to reduce the sagging and puffiness which is caused due to aging.

If all these wonderful benefits can’t make you onboard with facial massages, I don’t know what can!!

How often

Try to do it every day as part of your skincare routine after or while cleansing. Many estheticians suggest oil cleansers for massages but you can also first clean your face with micellar water, and mix a non comedogenic essential oil and carrier oil that suits your skin type and do a quick massage around 3-5 minutes on the face and neck.

When to do

You can do the massage in the morning or evening. If you are targeting lymphatic drainage it's better to do it in the evening as you might feel a little tired after it.

What Oil to use

Always use non comedogenic plant-based oils or oil cleansers.

How much oil to use

A half teaspoon oil should be sufficient, the motto is to not cause friction while massaging.

Disadvantages

There are no disadvantages or side effects if you do the massage in the right way. However pulling or stretching the skin too much can make the skin sag 🙅🏻‍♀️.

Do not put too much pressure while massaging. Massages without oil can cause adverse effects so be cautious ⚠. Do not overdo the massages, a good gentle 3-5 minute massage with a proper lubricant in the evening works best as per our personal experience.
